Ireland Stapleton Pryor & Pascoe environmental attorney Rebecca L. Almon moderated a panel of environmental experts focused on sustainability through Brownfields property redevelopment at the 2015 Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute’s Western Places/Western Spaces conference.
The panel included Doug Jamison, the Superfund/Brownfields Unit Leader at the State of Colorado; Tim Kelley, an environmental protection specialist with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s Division of Oil and Public Safety; and Jesse Silverstein, Vice President and Senior Economist with Development Research Partners.
The panel discussed advancements in the environmental arena that could provide an economic advantage to those property owners and businesses who are looking to redevelop a property that may have remediation issues.
“The Brownfield Contaminated Land Income Tax Credit and the Petroleum Cleanup and Redevelopment Fund provide financial incentives for property owners to redevelop impacted properties,” says Almon. “The tax credit and state funding can be tremendous resources for property owners and investors looking to redevelop blighted yet desirable areas, such as abandoned land, former gas stations, and dry cleaner sites throughout the state.”
