Russell Kemp Accepts Citizen Diplomat Award

Business and real estate attorney Russell Kemp received WorldDenver’s inaugural Citizen Diplomat Award at an event that featured remarks by U.S. Ambassador Michael McFaul.

“WorldDenver defines Citizen Diplomacy the following way: Representing the best of our city and state to the visitors we host and showing awareness and curiosity about the rest of the world in our interactions with people from other countries. Whether meeting with Former U.N. Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon, or hosting international visitors with his wife in their home, Russell exemplifies that ideal with generosity, intelligence, and strategic vision.”

WorldDenver Interim Executive Director, Laurie Zeller

Russell and Ireland Stapleton have a long-lasting relationship with WorldDenver, a spin-off organization from the International Institute of Education (IIE) that began in the 1950’s. Russell first volunteered for the organization in 2002, and he was instrumental in helping found WorldDenver in 2012.  He served as WorldDenver’s first board chairman and has been an active board member ever since, helping to bring international dignitaries, professional delegations, and youth leaders on exchange programs to Denver.

Russell is a business and real estate attorney representing clients in real estate transactions, regulatory and policy issues, business deals, and estate planning strategies.  An active member of the community, Kemp has a passion for creating connections and partnerships between nonprofits serving the Denver community.  He gives his professional and personal time and money to various nonprofits including WorldDenver, Community First Foundation, Habitat for Humanity of Metropolitan Denver, University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and the Women’s Foundation of Colorado.

WorldDenver is a globally-focused nonprofit community organization dedicated to advancing a deep understanding of global affairs and cultures. Supported by individuals, businesses and foundations, WorldDenver engages globally-minded Coloradans in a direct, personal dialogue with each other and with elected officials, civic leaders and professionals from around the world.
