February 24, 2017 – Sean Spicer, President Trump’s press secretary, sent tremors through the legalized marijuana industry on Thursday (February 23, 2017) when he said the White House viewed Retail (recreational) marijuana in the same category as opioids, and that there should be greater enforcement of marijuana laws by the Trump administration. Spicer’s comments beg the question: was this just a side comment or is this truly policy that is being issued by the White House? The answer is, we don’t know.

It would be difficult if the White House were to attempt a shift in marijuana policy — it would not only face a fight from the marijuana industry, but also legal action. Hear Ireland Stapleton regulatory attorney Tom Downey explain it here.
