Erica Tarpey is a business attorney at Ireland Stapleton Pryor & Pascoe, PC and previously served as the firm’s Managing Director for more than 10 years, becoming the first woman to hold that position. She now serves as Past Managing Director. Erica’s practice focuses on advising businesses at the intersection of law and strategy, with experience spanning corporate governance, business formation, Securities and Exchange Commission compliance, and corporate finance.
Before joining Ireland Stapleton, Erica served as Chief Corporate Counsel for Citadel, a global financial institution based in Chicago. In that role, she oversaw corporate compliance for more than 100 entities, drafted SEC filings, prepared corporate governance documents and loan agreements, and served as the lead attorney responsible for the company’s audited financial statements. Her experience also includes advising on employment matters such as non competition and non solicitation agreements, workplace training, and internal investigations.
Erica is widely recognized for her leadership within the legal profession. She is deeply committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion and to fostering a collaborative and supportive firm culture where attorneys and staff can thrive. Through her participation in allyship programs for female managing partners and her involvement with the firm’s law firm network, SCG Legal, Erica has helped elevate conversations around women in the law through workshops and panel discussions. She has played an active role in developing and implementing initiatives designed to support healthy, balanced, and sustainable legal careers for lawyers of all backgrounds.
Erica has a strong commitment to education and community engagement. She has established two funds at her alma mater, Grinnell College, to support global learning opportunities for students. The Erica Tarpey ’93 Fund for Global Grinnell provides funding for expenses not typically covered by financial aid, such as visa fees, inoculations, and incidental travel costs that allow students to more fully experience international study. She has also endowed a fund supporting Grinnell College’s Institute for Global Engagement, which promotes international learning and research through collaboration across academic departments, programs, and global initiatives.
In addition, Erica helped establish a class scholarship at the University of Colorado Law School. Through the leadership efforts of the Class of 1996, funds were raised to support students pursuing legal education and professional development.
