Biography

Scott Rodgers is a commercial trial lawyer at Ireland Stapleton Pryor & Pascoe, PC. He represents local and national companies, business owners, executives, and high net worth entrepreneurs in complex business disputes. Scott advocates for his clients in jury and bench trials, appeals in state and federal courts, arbitrations, mediations, and through strategic litigation avoidance efforts.

Over more than 30 years in practice, Scott has handled numerous high profile matters and has represented well known organizations, entertainers, professional athletes, and other prominent individuals. His depth of knowledge and extensive trial experience have earned him a reputation as a highly aggressive and effective advocate.

Before entering private practice, Scott served as a law clerk to the Honorable Leif M. Clark and interned with the Honorable Sidney B. Brooks of the United States Bankruptcy Court. He also spent several years as an asset management analyst with GE Capital, where he was responsible for managing a $3.1 billion portfolio.

Scott is actively involved in his community, where he regularly handles pro bono matters and coaches youth sports.

Legal Experience
  • Plaintiff’s counsel in coal-fired plant construction defect case involving numerous governmental agencies and manufacturers of various power plant components. Litigation involved $160 million dollars in claimed damages. Expert depositions of mechanical, civil, chemical, and electrical engineers, economists, and damage valuation modeling. Favorable jury verdict.
  • Counsel in ongoing complex probate proceedings involving hundreds of millions of dollars of oil and gas assets in one of Colorado’s largest and longest-running probate proceedings. Issues were brought to the Colorado Supreme Court on two occasions. Complex oil and gas expert depositions, shareholder and voting rights valuations, numerous CPA’s, and complex decline curve analysis. Favorable client outcome.
  • Counsel to buyer in litigation regarding a $20 million loan acquisition involving Lehman Brothers, and related bankruptcy issues.
  • 30 years experience representing lenders (and occasional borrowers) in workouts and related litigation.
  • 30 years experience in commercial bankruptcies.
  • Counsel for international and national banks involving commercial loan workouts.
  • Successfully defended family in multi-faceted constructive trust litigation involving multi-million dollars of oil and gas assets in which plaintiff’s claims were dismissed on a directed verdict.
  • Handled high net worth domestic relations matters, including valuation of property interests in the form of agricultural and farming operations, oil and gas, partnerships, closely held companies, NFL contracts, coal interests, trusts, water rights, brewery rights, commercial real estate, residential real estate, architects, certified public accountants, attorneys, pensions, and ethanol.
  • Lead counsel for a negligent misrepresentation claim against an international oil and gas conglomerate involving well piping. Complex valuation modeling on damages in relation to oil wells. Attendant environmental issues. Successfully litigated to a million-dollar jury verdict.
  • Advised family members on $100 million-plus trust issues involving a national brewing conglomerate.
  • Successfully represented client in multi-million dollar, multi-state, low-income housing loan transactions involving Congressional investigation.
