News
August 19, 2026

Ireland Stapleton Director Craig Johnson recently moderated a panel discussion on electric transmission policy in the West, sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Energy Bar Association (EBA).

The panel brought together Kris Raper of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), Maury Galbraith of the Colorado Electric Transmission Authority (CETA), and Matt Larson, representing The Western Transmission Consortium (TWTC), for a timely discussion about the rapidly evolving transmission landscape across the region.

Among the topics discussed were the challenges utilities and transmission providers face in serving new large loads and data centers, as well as navigating differing policy priorities and regulatory approaches among Western states. The conversation also explored the broader implications of these issues for transmission planning, reliability, and the region’s growing energy needs.

Approximately 25 energy industry professionals attended the event.

Johnson, who recently joined Ireland Stapleton as a Director, currently serves as President of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Energy Bar Association and is a member of EBA’s national Board of Directors. Ireland Stapleton Director Sean Jennings also serves as an officer on the Rocky Mountain Chapter board.

Craig’s leadership within EBA reflects Ireland Stapleton’s longstanding involvement in Colorado’s energy and utility industries and our attorneys’ continued engagement in the policy and regulatory issues shaping the West’s energy future.
